Health Crisis - Too Little Money Spent

It’s all coming out now that the pollies are gearing up for a state election. They’ve been dudding us for years, actually reducing the money spent on the health system and our public hospitals each year, while the services to the Aussie taxpayer get worse all the time.
It took complaints from medical staff in two of Sydney’s best-known hospitals over the past few days to make the dire situation public. Doctors at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Camperdown and the Royal North Shore Hospital in St Leonards/Crows Nest have actually gone public in other media to point out their long hours and over-stretched resources.
The queues of patients waiting for medical attention get longer and longer, while medical staff use Triage - a system designed to prioritise patients in time of war, when facilities are overwhelmed - to decide who gets to see a doctor.
Triage divides would-be patients into three categories: Those who will die, even if you attend to them. Those who won’t die, even if you ignore them for hours or even days. And those who can be saved if you attend to them NOW (but the will die if you don’t look after them). So with Triage…
- The dying are left outside to die unattended.
- Those in pain but whose lives are not threatened, are just left unattended and in pain. (Remember, they won’t die.)
- Those who will die unless they are given help get treated immediately, as long as the surgeons think they can be saved.
It makes sense in a battlefield scenario with thousands of casualties. Bur this is Australia, where we’re supposed to be a civilised country. It’s not the battlefields of Flanders in World War One.
And the politicians really believe that we’re dumb enough to vote for any of them? One lot’s as bad as the other, for all they do is feather their own nests. The government or the opposition make noises, but it’s all a facade.
Even if we change the glove puppets, the puppet masters remain unchallenged.
Wake up, Australia! Changing the glove puppets at next election is only playing their game. We need a real change.
