On Friday 26th January, we celebrated Australia - a date which commemorates the landing of Captain Cook and the first white settlers who took over Australia two centuries ago.

2 year old tot Elizabeth wanted to join the Chinese dancers on Australia Day

There is plenty of evidence of our British and Celtic ancestry, with Scots pipe bands and even Redcoat soldiers in attendance at the Milsons Point/Kirribilli gathering that I attended. But other cultures were there as well.

It was during a display of Chinese classical dancing, where one little two-year-old toddler stole the show by walking onstage during their fan dance, to try and imitate the grown up ladies. The dancers carried on dancing in the best traditions of the stage and managed not to trip over little Elizabeth, whose proud dad and mom hail from Eastwood.

Fortunately, her daddy, Duncan, rushed to the stage as the act was finishing, and whisked his musical tot up in his arms and took her back to mum.

I reckon little Elizabeth may well have a career in show business awaiting her in about 16 years or so. And if that’s the case, remember you read it here in the Balmain Blog! ;-)

Back in Daddy's arms, little Elizabeth finished her first venture onto the stage.
